Scholastic Assistant Program

What is a Scholastic Assistant (SA)?

LLC group photo

The overall purpose of the Scholastic Assistant (SA) Program is to foster a successful and positive educational and developmental experience for all new first-year and transfer students. SAs are successful continuing students who serve as mentors for new students, helping with both their social and academic transitions. Each SA is connected to a particular LLC or TLC course, and the group of SAs in any given LLC/TLC theme are seen as a collective resource for the new incoming student cohort. They serve as a liaison between new students and LLC/TLC Faculty Members, collaborate closely with Resident Assistants (RAs) and Commuter Assistants (CA) to collectively support students, put on co-curricular experiential programming, and help new students navigate and find their place here at USD.

Student Leadership Opportunities

We are so excited you are interested in serving our USD community! Student Leaders are vital in providing important programs and services to our campus community. With the talent, energy, and spirit of our student leaders, our university stands well-positioned to provide a true liberal arts education that challenges students to learn broadly and think deeply.

The Learning Communities team has many opportunities for Student Leadership, including Commuter Assistants (CAs), Resident Assistants (RAs), and Scholastic Assistants (SAs). Whether you become a CA to support commuter students, a RA supporting students in the residence hall, or a SA supporting students’ academic transition, we collectively serve our campus community.
