Comp time does not exist in California. A California private employer subject to the FLSA (the federal Fair Labor Standards Act), such as the University of San Diego, is not permitted to offer compensatory time off (comp time) to a non-exempt employee in lieu of paying overtime.
Work together with your supervisor to revise/update your job description to ensure that it accurately reflects the current job responsibilities, duties, and requirements. If possible, update the job description using the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word. Consult with Human Resources if you have any questions or need assistance with the update process. Once the draft is finalized, the supervisor and/or HR Partner would submit the job description in Workday (see Edit Position and Job Description quick reference guide) to route through the necessary review and approval process.
First, discuss it with your supervisor. If your supervisor agrees that there have been substantial changes in the job that would warrant a review, you and your supervisor should work together to revise/update your job description to ensure that it accurately reflects the current job responsibilities and requirements. Then, your supervisor would work with the area HR Partner and submit the updated job description to Human Resources with a request for review for reclassification.
From the time the updated job description is submitted to Human Resources, generally no more than a few weeks. The committee that conducts the position reviews meets on a regular basis, up to two times per month, and results are usually available within a few days after the meeting.
Both staff and administrative positions are evaluated on a variety of factors, including education, experience and knowledge, skills, and abilities required, types of duties, responsibilities, qualifications, scope, reporting structure, financial responsibility, supervisory responsibility, as well as internal and external market data comparisons.
Departments should first obtain approval from the Budget Office for new positions, then submit the job description to Human Resources for classification. Once budget approval is obtained, hiring supervisors are encouraged to consult with Human Resources to assist them with developing the job description and determining the appropriate salary and title for new position.
