Both Gualberto and Paulino studied at the University of São Paulo and participated in the exhibition AFRO: Black Identity in America and Brazil at the Tamarind Institute in 2012. Their work explores the Afro-Brazilian experience and is known for investigating the historical construction of identity. Yet, while Gualberto’s work focuses on the dichotomy between memory and history, Paulino’s lithographs employs natural imagery to highlight the impact violent legacies of slavery had on the black female body.
Gualberto y Paulino estudiaron en la Universidad de São Paulo y participaron en la exhibición AFRO: Identidad Negra en América y Brasil en el Instituto Tamarind en 2012. Su trabajo explora la experiencia Afro-Brasileña y es conocido por su investigación sobre la construcción histórica de identidad. Solo que mientras el trabajo de Gualberto se enfoca en la dichotomia entre memoria e historia, las litografias de Paulino usan imágenes naturales para resaltar el impacto que los violentos legados de la esclavitud tuvieron en el cuerpo negro femenino.
