Have you ever wanted to bring an international element to your classroom without leaving campus? Now you can! Virtual Exchange (VE) and Collaborative Online Learning (COIL) pedagogies connect students and professors in different countries for collaborative discussions, activities, and projects as part of their coursework. Adding a COIL project or VE activity to your syllabus is an excellent way to incorporate international and experiential elements into your course, promoting equity in global learning. When designed well, both COIL and VE help students practice interacting with peers from other countries to develop cross-cultural understanding and appreciation for different perspectives. COIL and VE are well-suited for any discipline. In this virtual session, you will learn from USD faculty colleagues who have used these pedagogies in their classroom and how you might do the same. Faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences and the Knauss School of Business who are interested in adopting VE or COIL in a future class are currently eligible to apply for a stipend to support implementation, thanks to the Chapman Family Foundation International Program and USD's International Center.
*This event is eligible for NTT Timecard Entry.
Intended Audience: All USD faculty
Facilitated by: Dr. Emily Edmonds-Poli (CAS - Political Science and International Relations) with presentations by Dr. Denise Dimon (KSB - Economics) and Dr. Anne Koenig (CAS - Psychological Sciences).
