Terms and Cancellation Highlights
Full Time Status
To be eligible to live in a University residence hall, Resident must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at the University and making normal progress toward completion of a degree.
Academic Year Contract
The housing contract is for the full academic year; both Fall and Spring semesters. Summer housing is separate.
Cancellation Fees
There is a standard cancellation fee of $250 when a resident cancels their housing contract at any time and for any reason. These fees increase over the summer and into the Fall semester. After a certain date, the resident is no longer eligible for a partial refund.
Release from Housing Contract
After the Agreement period for occupancy begins or the delivery of an access key card, whichever occurs earlier, the Resident must receive approval from Residential life to terminate their housing contract.
Applications Timeline
Fall/Academic Year Application
The housing application for the Fall/full academic-year semester launches in early February for returning students and in May for new students.
Spring Application
The spring housing application launches in late October/early November for spring exchange students and those studying abroad or on a leave of absence.
Intersession Application
The Intersession housing application launches in October for anyone planning to stay on campus during the winter break and Intersession periods (Dec-Jan).
Summer Application
The summer housing application launches in May for all students who recently graduated or are pursuing a degree.

Housing Applications/Interest List
The Spring 2026 housing application is live on the housing portal.
The 2026-27 housing application launched on February 2nd and will close at 4pm on March 2nd. This is for returning students only. Housing is not guaranteed for non-required students (juniors and seniors).
Housing Cancellations
If you are interested in cancelling your housing application please email housing@sandiego.edu. Cancellation fees will apply.
