We Have a Vision for the Future

The Epstein Family Military Center is committed to being the ideal destination for our military-connected students (veterans, active duty, reserve, National Guard, spouses, and children).

We aspire to support our students throughout their entire journey from pre-admission to graduation and a career. In addition, we aim to be the premier research institution for military-related projects and interests.

Our program will diligently work with our students’ financial needs and relentlessly strive to graduate debt-free military-connected students. The overarching intention of our program is to equip our students with the skills requisite for their success in a variety of roles across different industries both in the U.S. and internationally.

Why Support the Epstein Family Military Center?

San Diego is known as one of the largest military cities in the nation with thousands of active duty service members, reservists, veterans, and their families pursuing higher education in the area. The University of San Diego is recognized as the go to university for the military population. This is reflected in the 15% increase of the military-connected population of the past two academic years. This population is continuing to grow and make an influence at USD.

USD is Committed to Our Military

The University of San Diego announced in May of 2025 that longtime supporters Dan and Phyllis Epstein, through the Epstein Family Foundation, have committed $10 million — their largest current gift to the university — to support the new Epstein Family Military Center. The gift is a challenge match aimed at raising an additional $10 million for the center.

The center is dedicated to USD’s military-connected students, who include both active-duty personnel and veterans, as well as spouses and dependent children. The center will further students’ educational and career goals and serve as a premier destination for service members, veterans, and their families.

“Our family is honored to support this important initiative, ensuring that military-connected students have the resources they need and deserve,” said Dan Epstein. “We invite the community to join us in this effort to create pathways of opportunity for those dedicated to lives of service and leadership. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for students today and for future generations.”
