San Diego Law Review

The San Diego Law Review (SDLR) is the flagship academic journal of the University of San Diego School of Law. Dedicated to the publication of articles that advance legal scholarship. Created in 1964, the Law Review is committed to publishing articles and essays written by academics, judges and legal practitioners from all over the world. The San Diego Law Review is an entirely student-run organization and publishes articles of topical legal interest four times a year. All articles are selected, edited and published by the Review's Editorial Board. Most issues also contain at least one comment or casenote authored by a San Diego Law Review member.

  • Only full-time or part-time students entering their second year are eligible for acceptance to the San Diego Law Review.
  • Concurrent degree students must participate in the writing competition at the end of their first year of JD studies.
  • SDLR membership is a two-year commitment.

Letter from the Editor-in-Chief

Published four times a year electronically, the San Diego Law Review is the premier journal of legal scholarship published at the University of San Diego School of Law. The Review was founded in 1964, and we are currently preparing for publication of our 63rd volume.

The San Diego Law Review is an entirely student-run organization. We publish articles submitted by professors, judges and practitioners. All articles are selected, edited and published by the Review's Editorial Board. Additionally, almost every issue contains at least one comment or casenote authored by a University of San Diego law school student, as selected by the Editorial Board.

Membership in the San Diego Law Review is a highly prestigious achievement. Rising first-year law students are eligible to compete for membership through a yearly write-on competition held at the end of the first year. Transfer students beginning their second year at the University of San Diego School of Law are also eligible for membership.

The Editorial Board of the San Diego Law Review is selected from within membership ranks by the outgoing board, based on the successful and timely completion of members' writing and citation assignments, and individual members' qualifications for available positions. The Editorial Board is supported by an administrator from the Law School’s Office of Marketing and Communications.
