The Best Small Conference in the West on Why Character Matters

The University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences Character Development Center will host the 16th annual Character Matters Conference on June 25 and 26.
The event brings together teachers, principals, and counselors, office administrators and staff, students in-training, college professors, parents and public/private service agency staff. These leaders will discuss teaching strategies and lessons that promote and nurture the character development of children and youth.

Special guest speakers include:

· Dr. Marvin Marshall, author, speaker, consultant and international discipline expert. Author of “Discipline Without Stress Punishment or Rewards: How Teachers and Parents Promote Responsibility & Learning.”

· Deanna Cleary, Outreach Director and Character Development Coordinator, All Saints’ Day school, Carmel, California

· Representatives of Wells Middle School, Dublin, California, recipient of 2012 Character Education Partnership, California State School of Character

· Carol Bos, “Super Lawyer” and Internet Pioneer, Creator of

· Drew Schlosberg, Community and Public Relations consultant, UT San Diego will comment on the newspaper, its community services, and its renowned Newspaper in the Classroom Program

· Steve Breen, Editorial cartoons and comic strip creator, The San Diego Union Tribune, “The 5W’s of Editorial Cartooning: Character and Characters.”

COST: $200, individual; $125 for schools sending two or more teachers; $25 for students with I.D. Costs includes two continental breakfasts, two lunches, handouts, book sales, book drawings and special prizes. Graduate and professional development credit is available.
