Kathy Marsh, PhD, is an associate professor in the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science at the University of San Diego. Dr. Marsh received her RN Diploma from Little Company of Mary Hospital on the Southside of Chicago. She went on to obtain her BSN, MSN, and PhD from USD, with her research focusing on Transitioning Adolescents with Type I Diabetes to Adult Care. Dr. Marsh has specialized training and holds certifications in Critical Care, Post Anesthesia, Pediatrics, and Clinical Research.
Professor Marsh, a University of San Diego alumna, brings a wealth of experience to USD. With over thirty-five years of clinical nursing experience, her rich and varied professional career has included staff, administrative, and Clinical Nurse Specialist positions in such departments as the Neonatal ICU, Medical & Cardiac ICU, Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Air Ambulance, Staff Development, Clinical Research in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and School Health focusing on the adolescent.
Education of patients, families and nursing has been a constant thread throughout Dr. Marsh's career. Her passion for education has carried over into her commitment to volunteerism. On a local level, she has volunteered for the past 19 summers on the planning committee and has served as a camp counselor for Camp Wana Kura - a day camp for children with diabetes that is sponsored by the American Diabetes Association. Dr Marsh’s volunteerism extends to the state level where she serves as a Commissioner for the California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission whose mission is to increase diversity of healthcare providers. Volunteering on an international level with developing nations is also a passion for Dr. Marsh. She has mentored USD students on several medical missions as they provided medical care to the people of Northern Haiti. Dr. Marsh teaches Pediatrics and Health Policy in the MEPN program in the School of Nursing.
