This is your USD News Minute.

Over the weekend, more than 45 student teams representing 40 colleges and universities from around the world – including USD – were here to compete in the Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge. They pitched their innovative business ventures for the chance to win part of $100,000 dollars in funding and in-kind services.

Last week, Law Professor Lisa Ramsey testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s IP Subcommittee about the NO FAKES Act. It’s a proposal that targets deepfakes and the deceptive impersonation of people. In her testimony she discussed ways Congress can better protect First Amendment interests in the proposal.

Two USD professors have been recognized for excellence in research and for their commitment to promoting diversity in medical science. Congratulations to professors Rachel Blaser and Razel Milo, who were among a handful of recipients of this year’s Prebys Research Heroes grant. Visit the USD News Center to learn more.

Tomorrow is the 2024 Undergraduate Honors Convocation, which celebrates seniors who have achieved remarkable academic accomplishments and demonstrated exceptional service. The event is from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Shiley Theatre and is open to the campus community.

As always, thanks for watching and we’ll see you next week.
