University Operations & Student Affairs Partner for Wellness Center Open House

Open House

University Operations and Student Affairs co-hosted an open house event to promote the highly-anticipated new Wellness Center and Basketball Practice Facility in the Hahn University Center on Thursday, April 11.

The event provided USD students and employees with important information on the current construction project and the opportunity to give feedback on several components of the new center, set to open later this year.

“The event included several student participation opportunities, allowing them to provide feedback on furniture selection, provide feedback on inspirational quotes that are being considered as part of the branding inside the building, see samples of exercise and fitness equipment, learn about the various activities available through Outdoor Adventures, and learn more about the Wellness Center overall through displays of floor plans, architectural renderings, and an animated video fly-through showing what the building will look like once completed,” said Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management André Hutchinson.

The recurring open house event is designed to showcase the departments within the Division of University Operations and as a means to engage the campus community. University Operations includes the departments of public safety, human resources, university mobility and scheduling and university design. Student Affairs includes the Center for Health and Wellness Promotion, campus recreation and associated student government.

In January, USD held a topping off ceremony for the new center

“This is an exciting day for the University of San Diego, marking a significant step in a project important to our campus,” said USD President James T. Harris, DEd. “At USD, we educate our students with a focus on mind, body and spirit. While our Student Wellness Center and Basketball Practice Facility will be another beautiful addition to our already stunning campus, it’s what will take place inside this building — the combination of resources, the dedicated spaces with student wellness in mind — that makes this project especially exciting and unique.”

The new wellness center will redefine the student experience at USD.

In addition to setting a new standard for inclusive wellness resources and NCAA practice facilities for scholar-athletes, the three-story, 80,000 square-foot facility will provide accessible indoor and outdoor spaces where the entire campus community can find connections between physical activity, diet and nutrition, mental health, inner self, engagement and belonging.
