USD’s 2022 Military Graduation Celebration Aboard USS Midway

The University of San Diego (USD) held its 2022 Military Graduation Celebration aboard the USS Midway Museum on Friday, May 13. The celebration honored the more than 80 undergraduate and 52 graduate/law military-connected students graduating this academic year.

Military-connected students include active-duty, veterans, spouses, dependents and Reserve Officers Training Program (ROTC) members. Graduates who will be awarded bachelor’s, master's, PhD/doctorate and law degrees, received USD military and veteran program stoles to wear at commencement later this May.

Facts about military-connected students at USD:
● Currently, there are approximately 800 military-connected students at USD.
● USD’s small class sizes, strong academics and commitment to the success of military-connected students are some of the reasons veterans and other military-connected students choose USD.
● USD has a military-connected student center on campus. The university provides study space, VA benefits counseling, printing, and other support to military-connected students.
● The university offers a wide variety of programs to students, including social and professional opportunities and wellness and fitness programs geared towards the military-connected community.
● USD’s business and engineering degrees are the two most popular programs among military-connected students, but there are military-connected students in almost all undergraduate and graduate programs.
● From its very beginnings, USD has been dedicated to our nation’s veterans. The university was founded in 1949 — in that brief period of time between the end of World War II and the beginning of the Korean War. In 1954, many of the students who were registering for the inaugural classes at the College for Men and the School of Law were just coming home from the Korean War. They were USD’s very first student veterans.
