Mary Long has been appointed Managing Director of the Supply Chain Management Institute (SCMI) in the University of San Diego School of Business. Formerly vice president of logistics and network planning with Domino's Pizza, Long succeeds Joel Sutherland who assumed leadership of the SCMI in 2011.
Long's areas of expertise include logistics, supply chain strategy and systems, engineering, manufacturing, global equipment and supply, customer collaboration and operations.
"Joel's vision and dedication have greatly energized the Supply Chain Management Institute and the University of San Diego's prominence in this area," said Jaime Alonso Gómez, Dean of the School of Business. "His contributions have inspired many students and alumni, and we are grateful for the many new initiatives and connections he established during his tenure. We are confident that Mary will continue this great work. Her performance, knowledge and talent will be an asset to the SCMI and to the School of Business as a whole."
Long is currently incoming chair for the Council of Supply Chain Management Board of Directors and also serves on the advisory board for AWESOME (Achieving Women's Excellence in Supply Chain, Operations, Management and Education).
She holds an MBA in operations and logistics from The Ohio State University and an undergraduate degree in quantitative business analysis from Cleveland State University. Her career includes 15 different supply chain roles for Campbell Soup, General Mills, Pillsbury and Quaker Oats/Gatorade, among others, and spans 10 different cities in eight different states. Long has also worked in manufacturing operations and food distribution.
The University of San Diego Master's of Supply Chain Management program is ranked 15th in the nation in U.S. News & World Report's 2017 list of Best Online Graduate Business Programs.

Sutherland will remain connected to the SCMI and USD by teaching in the master's program and conducting industry workshops and seminars.
The Supply Chain Management Institute was created in 1999 and has earned a reputation for supporting the development of exceptional professionals who are sought after by industry and the public sector alike. The SCMI shares insights and best practices through graduate web-based programs, residence programs, executive education and semi-annual forums. It supports other supply chain-related programs at USD including an undergraduate minor and the supply chain concentration for MBA students.
