Living Out USD's Mission Through Sleep Week

Sleep Week

Sleep Week is an awareness program held each semester just before final exams week at the University of San Diego and sponsored by Student Wellness. By raising awareness of the crucial role sleep plays in our overall health, this effort supports USD students in maximizing their well-being, academic success, and overall university experience.

As Toreros, fostering a caring, healthy campus community begins with taking care of ourselves. Sleep is an essential element of our health, particularly for college students who are balancing multiple demands.

Sleep reduces stress, increases alertness, and bolsters memory, allowing students to be at their best to tackle the rigors of college life. Sleep Week includes a marketing campaign of materials dispersed across campus featuring sleep benefits, facts, and tips. Sleep masks are also distributed to promote getting in the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep each night.

Students (pictured) at one event during the week (Dec. 7-11) gathered outside of Missions Crossroads for a program titled, “Sweet Dreams,” that featured cookies and milk as students learned strategies for maximizing their sleep. Even now, as final exams are underway for undergraduate and graduate students and continue through Dec. 22, getting a good night’s sleep is an essential part of one’s preparation.
