Mexico's Drug Violence Down, but Problems Persist

U-T San Diego -- As rates of drug violence in Northern Mexico have dropped, areas of the country’s Pacific coastal states have experienced increases, according to a study released Tuesday by the University of San Diego. One major city that has countered the over-all trend has been Tijuana, where homicides in 2013 rose by nearly one-third over the previous year, the report states.

Entitled “Drug Violence in Mexico,” the report comes on the heels of claims by President Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration that homicides in the country in 2013 fell by 16 percent over the previous year. (Full Story)
