USD's Shaney Fink Selected a NACWAA Administrator of the Year

USD Toreros--In recognition of the outstanding achievements and success of women working in athletics, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) announced today its 2013 Administrator of the Year Award recipients. Shaney Fink, USD senior associate athletic director/SWA, was selected for NCAA Division I FCS schools. Fink, along with seven other honorees, will be celebrated on October 15th in San Diego at the 2013 Jostens Administrator of the Year Luncheon.

"This is a well deserved honor for Shaney," said Ky Snyder, USD Executive Director of Athletics. "She has contributed substantially to the strides USD Athletics has made. She is a proven leader - both in her role as Senior Associate AD/Senior Woman Administrator - as well as in a variety of important NCAA and conference cabinets, councils, and committees."

Shaney Fink has established herself at the University of San Diego as a leader who is highly committed to athletic and academic excellence, diversity and the development of student-athletes. A member of San Diego's athletic department since 1999, Fink is currently senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator, overseeing 17 Division I sports and over 450 student-athletes. She has served in a number of other coaching and administrative roles at San Diego. This past year she was tournament director for the NCAA Women's College Cup as USD hosted it's first national championship for NCAA Division I women's soccer.

Fink is a member of the NCAA Legislative Council, the NCAA Legislative Council Football Championship Series Subcommittee and is a former member of the NCAA Division 1 Progress towards Degree Waiver Committee. As a member of the West Coast Conference Executive Council she serves on the Academics, Legislation & Compliance Cabinet, Administration and Operations Committee and is Executive Committee liaison to compliance administrators and to the rowing coaches.

On campus she serves on the Black Student Retention and Recognition Committee, chairs the Gender Equity, Diversity, Student Athlete Welfare Committee and the Torero Athletics Council.

Prior to her current position, she was Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics and Student Services, and since her arrival at USD has overseen the Academic Support Program. Shaney and her husband, Tom Vorkoper, reside in Encinitas with their three children - Lucas, Mia and Leon.

The Administrator of the Year Award, sponsored by Jostens, is presented annually to NACWAA members for significant contributions made as athletics administrators. In addition, the Nell Jackson Administrator of the Year Award honors an administrator who exemplifies the personal qualities and professional accomplishments of Dr. Nell Jackson--courage, conviction and perseverance.

"NACWAA is pleased to celebrate and honor these women who work diligently each day to represent their institutions and conferences in extraordinary ways," said Jane Miller, NACWAA awards committee chair and board of directors member. "Their commitment to the advancement of women at all levels of our profession ensures a bright future for those who aspire to a career in athletics. By honoring these inspiring women, we thank them for their outstanding service and leadership."
