Marissa Ringgold ’14 Wins Travel Award from the Division of Inorganic Chemistry

Marissa will receive $500 to support her trip to the Fall 2013 ACS Meeting in Indianapolis, IN. In addition to her poster presentation at the Inorganic Poster Session, she will also present at the special Sci-Mix session. Sci-Mix is a large meeting-wide event with posters selected to represent each participating ACS division.

Marissa will be presenting her work completed in the laboratory of Dr. Tim Clark. Her research is on amine-directed C-H borylation reactions, which provide rapid access to arylboronate esters that have potential as synthetic intermediates for pharmaceutically relevant compounds and as glucose sensors. The focus of her poster will be on the development of an improved catalyst/ligand system that increases the yield and selectivity of the reaction. The ligand study also provides additional insights into the role of the ligand in the reaction mechanism.
