Brown Taps SD Leaders for Military Council

U-T San Diego -- San Diego leaders have been named to help map California’s strategies for shielding the state from military budget cuts and base closures while at the same time promoting the state as an ideal location for defense industry jobs.

They are part of a newly established Military Council charged with advising Gov. Jerry Brown on how the state can build a unified case that it should retain a vital role as the U.S. shifts national security priorities.

Five of those appointed to the 18-member Military Council are from the San Diego region, including Mary Lyons, president of the University of San Diego and former commanding officer of Naval Reserve units. (Full Story
