Violence in Mexico Shifts, Hope is for Plateau
San Diego Union-Tribune -- Violence in Mexico this year could reach a record level, and there is a geographic shift in that violence as well as a related uptick in the number of Mexicans seeking asylum in the U.S., according to data released Tuesday night by the Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego.
Despite the continued violence, expert David Shirk said there is reason to be hopeful. He believes the number of killings, assaults and kidnappings could soon plateau and be followed by a decrease as cartel leaders appear to be making deals that value drug business over drug feuds. (Full Story)
