Students live with host families while participating in the Guadalajara Summer Program. This rewarding encounter enables participants to experience the culture of Mexico first-hand, interaction with the host family also considerably improves their Spanish conversational skills.
Participants generally share a room with one or more students of the same gender. Private rooms are available for an additional $250. Housing accommodations can also be made for married couples.
Many of the families have been participating in USD's summer program for over 15 years. These families were carefully selected by a USD representative because they uphold the values of the University of San Diego and offer a clean, welcoming environment for students.
Each host family provides three meals per day. When deciding on housing, students should consider that most Mexican main dishes are prepared with meat, and therefore those with vegetarian or other dietary requests should consider the hotel options for housing or discuss their needs with the director before departure.
Host families also provide linen service, however personal laundry service is not included. Students may use nearby laundry facilities for their personal laundry.
The host family is not responsible for transportation of students. All houses are within walking distance of a USD bus stop. Private USD school buses will transport students to and from the ITESO campus, Monday through Thursday. These transportation costs have been included in the room and board fee.
Students may request to be housed with one other roommate who has applied and has been accepted to the program. Applications with roommate or host family requests must be submitted or postmarked by March 1, 2007. While the Guadalajara Summer Program will make every effort to satisfy roommate and host family request, no guarantees can be made. Host home assignments will be arranged for all students requesting host families and mailed to students in mid-May.
Students will be allowed to move in with their host families on Friday, June 7 and must be out on Saturday, July 18, 2008.
Students who plan on arriving in Guadalajara before June 6 and those who decide to stay later than Saturday, July 18, 2007 must arrange their own housing accommodations for early arrival or late departure.
