Details

Learn about Persian New Year, Nowrooz, in a student-led presentation at the Humanities Center. Nowrooz, meaing New Day, is celebrated to commemorate the first day of spring. Based off the spring equinox, this holiday is celebrated by diverse communities -- peoples of various countries and ethnicities. While it is a secular holiday for most celebrants, it is a holy day for Zoroastrians, Bahais, and some Muslim communities. Nikta will share the history and significance of the Persian New Year as well as set-up a Haftsin — a traditional table with seven items that represent life, wealth, health — which will be on display in the Humanities Center.
