What would it mean to fulfill Christ’s commandment “to love God with all one’s mind?” In his Oxford University Sermons on faith and reason, the newly canonized Saint John Henry Newman speaks of the predisposition of the mind as crucial for believing. Faith is the reaching forward of the mind, based more on antecedent grounds, trusted presumptions and probabilities than on evidence.
Mary Katherine Tillman, PhD, professor emerita in the Program of Liberal Studies at the University of Notre Dame, explores this concept and more.
