Details

Fray Antonio de la Ascención left the Port of San Diego on May 5, 1602 to search with SebastianVizcaino for the Strait of Anián and to locate California, that mythical “Island of the Amazons.” Fray Antonio named the Bay of San Diego and was the first European naturalist to describe the presence of hundreds of gray whales in the Bay of San Diego in 1603. Gray whales still make the long and perilous journey through our waters, and face new threats from today’s technologies.

Join Dr. Jorge A. Vargas for a journey through history and a closer look into the interesting activities of the California gray whale in the coastal lagoons of Baja California, Mexico.

For ages 55 and up.
