The San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative (Climate Collaborative) was established in 2011 as a network for public agencies to advance climate change solutions that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change. The Climate Collaborative has since expanded to become a resilience hub and a catalyst for collaborative, cross-jurisdictional work in the San Diego region.
Partnering with academia, non-profit organizations, and business and community leaders, the Climate Collaborative raises the profile of regional leadership, shares expertise and leverages resources.
Our mission
Our Mission is to connect the region to advance climate change solutions.
By bringing people together, we envision a prosperous and resilient region with a commitment to maintaining a high quality of life and fostering a green and growing economy with an equitable and unified approach. Together, we are prosperous and resilient.
Our Core Programming
The Climate Collaborative's current initiatives focus on engaging our members, strengthening our climate resilience hub, leveraging collaborative capacity, and establishing strategic partnerships. By providing a suite of virtual and in-person events, such as quarterly network meetings and monthly working group meetings, as well as supporting members through leading research, the Climate Collaborative is a resilience hub that aligns the region on resilience and adaptation. As a leading research entity of the region, the Climate Collaborative staff works internally and with community partners to develop reports, frameworks, and other deliverables that are utilized by our network and beyond.
Engaging our Members
The Climate Collaborative supports its member network in providing new and innovative learning opportunities. All staff that are a part of a member organization are welcome to participate in Climate Collaborative member benefits!
Quarterly Network Meetings
The Climate Collaborative hosts in-person quarterly network meetings that feature local and state speakers and workshops. This is a good opportunity for professionals to connect with others around the region and learn more about local and statewide efforts through presentations and talks. Network meetings are mostly free and are open to anyone interested in the work happening around our region.
Working Groups
Our working groups serve as a safe place for our members to have candid conversations about specific climate topics. Members are encouraged to have discussions with others in our member network in order to build cohesion and trust in the San Diego region.
The RER Working Group aims to coordinate and contribute to local, regional, and statewide decarbonization efforts to build energy resilience and efficiency in the San Diego region. This group serves as a platform for members to share and exchange regionally relevant best practices for the implementation of decarbonization efforts broadly, and build regional alignment and partnership.

Strengthening Our Resilience Hub
In addition to being a liaison for collaboration opportunities, the Climate Collaborative develops reports and data-driven resources to inform and align the region on topics related to climate resilience and adaptation. As a resilience hub, the Climate Collaborative focuses its research within four focus areas: energy efficiency, coastal resilience, climate adaptation, and water. With the exception of water, each core program area has a working group associated with it in which core members are invited to participate as a part of their membership. Research and programming for each focus area has a foundation of an equity-first framework, which aims to include underrepresented and underserved communities in the conversation of climate change and climate resilience.
