Why did you choose USD? What made USD stand out in comparison to other schools with a similar program?
The Higher Ed Leadership program really stood out because of the chance to do research in what I'm interested in and the program itself is broad, it's about leadership in higher education rather than focusing on one specific aspect of higher ed.
What is your educational and professional background?
2nd MA student.
What are your professional goals?
To work in higher education specifically with first-generation college students.
Favorite thing about your program:
The opportunity to have a GAship within student affairs.
Have you completed an international experience? Where did you go and what did you do?
No - looking forward to doing so in Spring 2022.
Are you currently working? If so, do you work full-time or part-time, and what do you do? How do you balance work, school, and personal life?
Part-time, I have a GAship with the United Front Multicultural Commons. It's hard to balance it, but prioritizing tasks and staying organized is very important.
What internships, assistantships volunteer work, or fieldwork have you done through SOLES? How has it impacted you?
My GAship with the UFMC has really impacted me because it continues to grow my want to work with students. Being able to supervise/advise my undergraduate students has been the highlight of my assistantship
What advice can you share with prospective students?
Don't doubt yourself and your accomplishments. Grad school can be daunting but don't let those fears get in the way. Grad school is difficult but you CAN do it.
