Torero Parents Making a Difference

At the University of San Diego, parents are encouraged to get involved in ways that build community and enhance the student experience. Parents can be a valuable resource by volunteering at events, providing internships and summer jobs for students, hosting a hometown event, welcoming new USD families and providing financial support, and so much more.

Become an involved Torero parent and make the college experience one that you and your student will always treasure.

The Office of Parent Relations coordinates a national parent volunteer program. Parents may volunteer to serve as a Parent Ambassador to the University of San Diego (USD) by assisting with Parent Relations, Admissions, and regional events. Parents and families of USD students serve as volunteers and have the opportunity to participate in the Parent Ambassador program. It’s a great opportunity to become involved with USD, meet other parents/families, further connect with your student’s college experience, and simply enjoy your status as a USD Torero parent. See all the volunteer opportunities available throughout the school year and sign up to become a Parent Ambassador. Parents of alumni are welcome and encouraged to join.

Q: Why should I get involved with the Parent Ambassador Program?
A: As an Ambassador, you will increasingly become knowledgeable about USD and be equipped with resources that will assist new incoming parents/families as well as yourself and your students. It's a great way to integrate yourself and your family into the USD community!

Q: What is the level of commitment?
A: We ask for a minimum of a one-year commitment. If you choose to volunteer at one of our larger events, you may be asked to attend a training or meeting prior to the event. Ultimately your level of commitment is up to you.

Q: What are some examples of volunteer opportunities?
A: Some examples are helping to check-in guests during OLE! Weekend and Transfer Fall Orientation (Parent Orientation); Homecoming and Family Weekend; and Grandparents' Weekend. Help reach out to parents of new Toreros through our Email Outreach Campaign. Help make congratulatory calls for the Admissions Office. Even serve as a panelist during parent orientations.

The Office of Parent Relations advises a Parents Association Board. The board meets three times a year and exists to integrate parents into the university community by mobilizing them to volunteer their talents and abilities, to contribute financially and to join other parents, students and university personnel in helping to create an educational environment consistent with the mission statement of USD.

The Parent Career Network was designed by USD Parent Board members and is supported by USD parents to offer students an opportunity and advantage in securing internships, summer jobs and, best of all, practical experience they can take with them when they embark on their career search.

USD students are encouraged to gain practical experience through internships and job opportunities before they graduate. This allows students to gain first-hand experience and a foot in the door, which can ultimately set the stage for their future careers. We ask parents to offer opportunities to students at their companies around the nation and internationally.

If you have an opportunity for a USD student, contact the Office of Parent and Family Relations at or call (619) 260-4808.

Help us build the network.
