Air Change Assessments: Optimizing Healthy Learning Environments
Throughout the fall semester, weekly random ventilation testing will be conducted in USD classrooms by University Mechanical to ensure heightened air change. The graphic to the right is an indoor air quality assessment system developed by the Harvard University T.H. Chan School of Public Health. It is one example that provides benchmarks for recommended air changes per hour (ACH) in buildings, classrooms and other ventilated indoor space, and it is a good indicator of airflow in agreement with industry standards from ASHRAE, OSHA and Title 24.
As of mid-August, we have measured air change tests in the classrooms below, showing positive results for the number of air changes per hour. We will continue to update the graph below as our random testing continues weekly throughout the fall semester.
