Laura Truman, PhD, APRN, FNP-BC is an ANCC board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) since 2010. She is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science and assumed the role of the DNP/NP Program Director in 2024.
Dr. Truman received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Baylor University in 1998. She received her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN) in 2010 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) in 2023 at the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Professional Experience
She is licensed in the State of California and has experience working in Primary Care and Urgent Care settings. She is currently employed at Kaiser Permanente Urgent Care in San Diego diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries in adult and pediatric patients.
She taught in the Master of Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) from 2009-2013. She has served as an adjunct faculty simulation, field supervisor and advanced health assessment and diagnosis lab instructor at the University of San Diego since 2017. From 2022-2023 served as a Clinical educator at the Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing at UC Irvine.
Dr. Truman previously served as an expert practice consultant for the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and has been called to testify as an expert witness during BRN disciplinary hearings from 2018-2023.
