Our SHC providers can refer students to specialists (e.g. dermatology, physical therapy, etc) or off-site imaging (e.g. x-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, etc). Students enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and students with private insurance can request referrals via their MyWellness Portal or schedule an appointment at the SHC.
NOTE: Fees charged by imaging facilities or specialists are independent of the SHC.

- Students enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) must obtain a referral from a USD provider to waive the $300 in-network deductible.
- The $300 deductible will NOT be waived without a referral from USD.
- How to obtain a referral from the SHC:
- Log in to your MyWellness Portal
- Click Messages > New Message > I want to send a message to the Student Health Center > I want to Request a Referral (Please allow 1-2 business days for a response from our staff)
- Our staff can assist you by providing you with a list of local specialists and/or off-site imaging. The list may include providers who are NOT covered by your health insurance plan or may not be considered "in-network" providers. Please verify what costs you may incur with the provider you are referred to. You can also view Aetna's Find a Doctor, Hospital, or Pharmacy (Option 1) to find a network provider. Under Student Health Medical Plans in California select "OA Managed Choice POS".
