The University's policy is to maintain a work environment that is free of physical and health hazards to the greatest extent possible. This is accomplished by a proactive effort to identify and evaluate environmental health and safety risks and initiate appropriate steps to remove or reduce them. EH&S encourages all employees and students to report any environmental health and safety concerns or incidences on campus.
As the University’s liaison, the Department of Environmental Health and Safety works with outside agencies and organizations to address all applicable regulations and standards. EH&S also maintains and updates various permits and certificates from Federal, State and local agencies.
EH&S manages programs establishing procedures to maintain environmental health and safety on campus, and conducts trainings to inform employees of their rights and responsibilities under these programs. EH&S also performs workstation ergonomic evaluations, maintains building fire protection systems, and responds to indoor air quality complaints.

EH&S Programs
The following Environmental Programs are implemented by the EH&S Department to reduce the University's impact on the environment.
EH&S administers Health Programs in compliance with OSHA guidelines in order to protect the well-being of campus workers, students and visitors.
EH&S has established a variety of Safety Programs, in compliance with OSHA regulations, designed to protect workers with the wide range of job duties necessary to run the University of San Diego.
