Biophysics lies at the intersection of physics, biology and chemistry. Applying the understanding, methods and quantitative skills gained in physics to a vast array of biological systems, Biophysics at USD seeks to gain new insights into biological problems, ranging from brain function, vascular networks, and DNA synthesis to biomedical devices, drug delivery and aquatic animal migration.

Have you ever been in the right place at the right time? Gregor Leech, junior undergraduate and biophysics major, certainly was, when he encountered an opportunity with awe-inspiring potential. What began as a casual check-in with his professor ended with Leech embarking on a three-year research project that has provided stepping stones for the future of science. Leech has been assisting Professor Rae M. Robertson-Anderson on a mission to create futuristic, autonomous materials, thanks to a $1 million grant from the WM Keck Foundation in 2018.
