Department of Physics and Biophysics

USD has a welcoming and inclusive community in the Society of Physics Students and the Physics and Biophysics Department. The opportunity to attend conferences and present my research as an undergraduate prepared me for presenting scientific research confidently and clearly. The professors were so caring and considerate, and they made a huge difference in continuing to spark my curiosity and grow my abilities in the field.

My interest in physics is what led me to pursue a bachelor's degree, but it was the people of USD's Physics and Biophysics Department that guided and inspired me through each obstacle I faced. My research mentor, Dr.Kishimoto, believed in me at a time when I felt incapable of studying physics. I took classes from or interacted with every professor in the department, and each one of them taught me to become a better person and physicist.

The physics department at USD is filled with amazing mentors who provide a true sense of community for their students. The small class sizes really allow for personal connections to be made with professors. I was able to work and gain experience in an advanced AMO physics lab, which has prepared me for my next step at Northwestern University where I will be working towards a PhD in physics.

The department has given me lifelong friendships and priceless experiences. The support from my professors and peers motivated me throughout my time at USD and helped me achieve my goals. The experience I gained from conducting research will provide me with knowledge and skills to succeed in whatever I choose next in my career.

I was engaged in high-level research while studying at USD, and I was also able to tour advanced research labs at other universities. I attended physics conferences through the Department of Physics and Biophysics, which helped me gain a better understanding of graduate-level research and brought me closer to my physics community. The experiences I had will help me greatly succeed in an industry I am passionate about.

The physics department gave me the opportunity to engage in diverse and advanced research at the undergraduate level. The mentorship and personal relationships I've built with this community would not exist without the small class sizes and dedication of the professors. I've received support in every endeavor I pursued as an undergraduate, and I am so grateful for the department's commitment to my success.

As a freshman, I could not have imagined all of the things I've learned and achieved now as a biophysics graduate. I owe it all to the mentors and opportunities I found in the department. The professors really care and are always willing to help. As a biophysics major, I discovered a passion for research and have been able to publish multiple papers, collaborate with graduate students at other universities, and present talks at national physics conferences.

I met great mentors, professional connections, and some of my best friends through the Department of Physics and Biophysics. The research experience and one-on-one instruction I received at USD have inspired my curiosity and given me confidence that I will succeed in graduate school.

The Department of Physics and Biophysics gave me the opportunity to grow as a person and as a physicist. While conducting research at the Quantum Hydrodynamics Lab, I was able to attend conferences, present my work, and connect with physicists in and out of my field. The dedication and passion of the professors as well as the strong sense of community, made the department unique and special. I am forever grateful for all of the things that I have learned and achieved during my time at USD.
