Theatre at USD is home to actors, directors, playwrights and designers of the future. Our major, minor and MFA programs embrace theatre as a means to inspire humanity and engage a diverse society. Through collaborative artistic exploration, both undergraduate and graduate programs train the individual to create within the ensemble.
Through the lens of playmaking, the undergraduate program focuses on developing empathy, critical analysis, creative problem solving and changemaking — integral parts of the liberal arts education at USD. The MFA in Acting program trains actors for careers in the professional theatre with special emphasis on classical works.

Jersten Seraile, MFA
“It’s amazing to be able to serve the university where I trained and to work alongside the folks who are mentors I admire and care about and can learn from,” says Seraile, who teaches Theatre of Diversity. “I’m passionate about this opportunity because it aligns with my values, who I want to be as a person and how I want to serve as an artist.”
Lisa Berger, MFA
Theatre faculty member's play, Red Bike, imagines when you were 11 years old and you had a bike, one that made you dream about a world bigger than the one in which you live. This play is that memory, except it is now. Two performers play the same character in a wildly imaginative, physical and poetic performance that is unlike anything else.
