More than $70,000 in net proceeds were raised during the University of San Diego’s 14th Annual Wine Classic on July 9 at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Garden of the Sea.

More than 700 people attended the event, held annually to support the Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund. The fund was launched in 2006 to provide much-needed scholarships for USD students. Recipients are current USD undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, strong academic merit and who give back to the USD and local community.

Wineries and wine purveyors from across California participated in this year’s event hosted by the University of San Diego Alumni Association. It was the first time the event has been held in person since 2019.

“The 14th Annual USD Wine Classic was a big hit,” said Senior Director of Alumni Relations Charles Bass. “It was a fun-filled afternoon — beautiful weather, a gorgeous setting and an enthusiastic crowd. There really seemed to be a special energy to the event with everyone so happy to be back in person.”

Since its inception, the event has generated more than $800,000 in scholarship support for deserving USD students.

“We're grateful for the support of our generous sponsors, volunteers and winery partners who help make the event possible,” says Bass. “It's a wonderful way to engage alumni, parents and friends in the life of the university.”
