Taste of the Torero Life: Grandparents and Family Spring Weekend


Family members got a chance to walk in their students' shoes and experience all USD has to offer at the annual Grandparents and Family Spring weekend.

Relatives got to experience classes without quizzes, sitting in on lectures with USD professors. There were tours of USD's campus, providing a glimpse into the school's rich history and the beautiful grounds their students walk every day.

And learned about the history of the building -- and USD -- from Sister Virginia Rodee, RSCJ, '57 (BA), '74 (MA).
Students and their families attended mass at Founders Chapel.

The festivities kicked off Friday with campus tours, classes without quizzes (featuring lectures on the science of coffee and sleep), trivia and a talk from alumnus and NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick.

Saturday, families gathered in Eagen Plaza for the Torero Tailgate, hanging out with Diego Torero before taking in the Men's Basketball game against Layola Marymount.

Finally, the weekend capped off with mass in Founders Chapel and a family brunch in La Gran Terraza.

"It was great to see the families enjoying all that USD had to offer and get a glimpse of their student's home away from home," said Renda Quinn, senior director of Parent and Family Relations. "You could see the pride and joy on their faces as precious family memories were being made."
