The Legal Research Center’s affiliation with local San Diego Circuit Libraries and other libraries across the country allow LRC users to borrow materials not owned by the LRC or Copley Library.
To request materials from other libraries, search the LRC Catalog and select the option to "Check Other Libraries." Find the source you would like to request and select the option to "Get it for me from other other libraries." Your request will be routed to available lending libraries, starting with libraries in our local San Diego Circuit network (UC San Diego, San Diego State University, CSU San Marcos, San Diego Public and San Diego County Libraries) followed by our larger network of library partners at the state and national levels.

Frequently Asked ILL Questions
The LRC provides ILL services to currently enrolled USD law students, law faculty, and law staff. Requests for ILL services from other USD users will be routed through Copley Library.
Books, journal articles, reports, government documents and other materials may be requested. Lending libraries reserve the right to refuse to loan any material.
The LRC does not borrow course materials for students through interlibrary loan.
ILL costs are determined by the lending library. Patrons may be required to assume the cost of borrowing materials. The LRC will contact you if payment is required.
It typically takes about 4 days to receive journal articles, book chapters, and other materials that can be scanned (called “copies”). Full books and other physical materials (called "loans") available in our local San Diego Circuit network typically arrive at the LRC in 1-3 days. Loans that are routed to our larger network of library partners at the state or national level typically arrive within 7-10 days. The actual length of time depends on the lending library and the mail service for physical materials.
Loan periods are at the discretion of the lending library but usually run one week to one month from the date the item is received. Requests for loan renewal must be made before the item is due. All materials borrowed must be returned on time and in the same condition as received. The patron is responsible for any overdue fines assessed by the lending library or for any charges if a borrowed item is damaged, lost or stolen. Abuse of the ILL service will result in a suspension of LRC borrowing privileges.
Start your search in the LRC catalog. If you do not find your desired result in our collections, you can click the option to “Expand Your Search.” By expanding your results, you will have access to titles available from resource sharing partners nationwide directly within the catalog.
Alternatively you may submit your request starting with a blank Interlibrary Loan request form.
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code), governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve a violation of copyright law.
