As you prepare for your exciting experience abroad, the USD International Center is here to support you. We understand that finances are a big consideration when choosing to study abroad, so please check out some helpful financial resources and scholarship opportunities (for both short-term and semester programs) on the various tabs above.
Tuition
USD’s study abroad programming provides students with an educational experience that encourages awareness and global citizenship. This education and your academic credits transfer back to USD to count toward your graduation requirements. You will pay USD tuition for your semester abroad and, if you are on financial aid, your financial aid package will travel with you for one semester (multiple semesters if you participate in USD's Double Degree program).
Housing/Program Fee
You will be billed by the HOST institution/partner for your housing and/or program fee. This cost will vary from program to program. This is not billed through USD; rather, you will pay the host institution/partner directly and will be held to their refund schedule.
Financial Aid
Your USD Financial Aid package will travel with you for one semester abroad (except for athletic scholarships or work-study scholarships). We encourage you to speak to a financial aid counselor in the Torero Hub about your financial aid package as each package is individualized for a student's particular financial need. Please check the “Finances” tab of each program page on the International Center’s website to see the approximate expenses.
External Scholarships
There are many external scholarships that students may apply for. Students are highly encouraged to research their scholarship options as soon as possible as some deadlines occur before the USD application period. See the Short-term Scholarships and Semester Scholarships pages for specific scholarship options available for semester study abroad programs. If students are planning on traveling through a provider, check to see if they offer any scholarships- many do!
It is ultimately your responsibility to research funding opportunities, but we are here to support you as you begin navigating how to finance your study abroad experience! We hope this information is helpful! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your program advisor with any questions.
