Student Health Insurance Requirement

All USD full-time Undergraduate, Graduate and Law students are required to have health insurance. At the beginning of every academic year, students need to decide to enroll in or waive out of the USD Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP, Provided by Aetna). This requirement ensures that students in need of health and/or mental health care beyond the scope of services provided by USD Student Wellness can access the appropriate care and resources in the community.

Important Fall 2026 Information

All eligible full-time Students

The decision form deadline to enroll in or waive out of the student health insurance plan for the 2026 - 2027 academic year is September 11, 2026.

All actively enrolled full-time students at the University of San Diego needs to submit a decision form to enroll in or waive out of the Student Health Insurance Plan by the published deadline.

THIS APPLIES TO ALL STUDENTS STUDYING ABROAD

Annual coverage dates: August 1, 2026 - July 31, 2027
*Both Domestic and International Students will have the same dates of coverage

If you are eligible for the student health insurance plan please submit your enrollment form as soon as possible to ensure you have access to your ID cards by the start of classes.

If a waiver form is not submitted by the published deadline, then all eligible students will automatically be enrolled in the "Annual Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan" and are responsible for the premium charged to their student account.

2026 - 2027 Annual Enrollment Cycle

  1. Starting on June 17, 2026 visit www.gallagherstudent.com/usd.
  2. Click on 'Enroll'
  3. Login using your MySanDiego account and password
  4. Complete the decision form
  5. Review the information entered for accuracy and click 'submit' to complete the process. Immediately upon submitting your Online Form you will receive a reference number. Please note and keep this information for your record

If a waiver form is not submitted by the published deadline (9/11/2026), then students are automatically enrolled into the annual plan and are responsible for the premium billed to their student account.
