Student Health Insurance Requirement

All USD full-time Undergraduate, Graduate, and Law students are required to have health insurance. At the beginning of every academic year, students need to decide to enroll in or waive the USD Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). This requirement ensures that students in need of health and/or mental health care beyond the scope of services provided by USD Student Wellness Services can access the appropriate care and resources in the community.

Spring 2020 Updates:

The Spring 2020 deadline for new full-time students to enroll in or waive out of the USD Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is February 5, 2020.

2019-2020 Information:

The Fall 2019 deadlines for new and returning full-time students to enroll in or waive out of the USD Student Health Insurance Plan were September 13, 2019, and then extended to September 30, 2019.

Eligible full-time students who did not submit a waiver by the extended deadline were enrolled into the USD Student Health Insurance Plan. If there were extenuating circumstances that prevented any student from not meeting the waiver deadline, they could submit an Online Petition to Waive form to appeal the enrollment through October 31, 2019.
