First-Generation Student Association
Are you looking to connect with other first-gen students and build community? The First-Generation Student Association’s (FGSA) mission is to establish a support system, provide services and workshops, foster a sense of community, and encourage pride for the First-Generation College Students at the University of San Diego.

The University of San Diego defines First-Generation students in the following way: At the time you completed high school or high school equivalency, neither of your custodial parent(s) or legal guardian(s) earned a Bachelor’s degree or higher. The First-Generation Student Association will be geared towards this demographic but welcomes all students and members of the USD community.
The association holds bi-weekly meetings on Thursdays during Torero Hours. Meeting agendas include a design thinking sprint, first-generation graduate student panel discussions, presentations from faculty, and a Career Development session about resume building and interview skills. The long-term goal of the association is to connect with local high schools and incoming first-generation college students to create a mentor program.
