The Academic Support Program offers a variety of services and programs specially designed to help first year law students succeed.
Panel discussions on such topics as "Creating Your Own Study Tools" and "Preparing for and Taking a Law School Final Exam" will be presented. Written materials on many study skills topics, and information about the workshops, will be available at this website.
An upper-class learning assistant for each first year class—someone who has taken the class previously from the same professor, who did very well in the class and who is usually attending the class again with you— will be available to help you develop effective ways to study. Check the handouts on TWEN or the bulletin board outside room 117, Warren Hall, to find the times and locations that you can meet with these upper-class mentors.
Many of the learning assistants prepare hypotheticals and quizzes that you can use in your own study groups each week to help you master the material. You'll find the handouts on TWEN starting a week or two after classes begin.
In the fall, a small number of students will be invited to join study groups run by the learning assistants. Eligibility is based on a number of factors, including entering LSAT and GPA. In the spring semester, eligibility is determined primarily by the fall grade point average.
Janet Madden, director of the Academic Support Program, is available to meet with students. Stop by room 117, Warren Hall, to make an appointment.
