Cities on the Cutting Edge
THE SUPREME COURT GIVETH, WILL THE PEOPLE TAKETH AWAY?: KELO, SAN REMO, LINGLE AND BEYOND...
September 6, 2006
Last year's trilogy of takings decisions at the U.S. Supreme Court
signals a new era in this critical area of law. In addition,
California faces a November ballot measure, Proposition 90, which is
riding the nationwide reaction to Kelo v. New London, and which has
implications far beyond the issue of eminent domain.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the
University of San Diego School of Law, the 10th annual "Cities on the
Cutting Edge" conference will examine the consequences of the Court's
decisions, as well as the legislative and initiative responses, and
what they mean for California's cities and counties. Co-sponsored by
the Municipal Law Institute of the City Attorneys Department and the
Center for State and Local Government Law at Hastings, and hosted by
the University of San Diego School of Law, this conference promises an
in-depth look at the past, present and future of takings law.
MCLE credit will be available. Registration, which includes program
materials and a reception is $80. Transportation from the San Diego
Convention Center will also be available for a fee.
