Tune In to the Toreros

Do not adjust your set. The next voice you hear will be Jim Stone. The noted San Diego sportscaster is the voice of Toreros men’s basketball this season, calling 10 home games televised live on Channel 4 San Diego.

Starting in November, the local cable station began broadcasting from the Jenny Craig Pavilion, with former NBA player Jim Brogan as color analyst. The duo continues with upcoming contests against Loyola Marymount (Feb. 3), Santa Clara (Feb. 24) and St. Mary’s (Feb. 26). The men’s team also will appear on Fox Sports West in games against Pepperdine (Feb. 5) and USF (Feb. 9).

All men’s games and women’s home games are Webcast on the Internet. For a schedule, log on to www.usdtoreros.com.

Bullying the Benches

You want a couple hundred college kids screaming in your ears? No problem, just sign up to play against the Toreros.

At basketball games this year, opposing teams will deal not only with the Toreros, but with rabid fans in The Bull Pit, a special, uh, cheering section located just behind the visitor’s bench. Designed to maximize USD’s home court advantage and to boost student spirit, the Bull Pit offers students perks like free T-shirts, reserved seats, invites to team events and, of course, the chance to heckle USD’s opponents.
