Judicial Externships (Before Graduation)

Students are alerted by email to opportunities to work for local federal, state, and administrative law judges during the summer and school year. Career Services will also assist you with externships applications outside of San Diego for the summer.

Judicial Clerkships (Post-Graduate Positions)

A judicial clerkship provides direct insight into the judicial process and is a valuable and enriching experience. A law clerk gains practical experience by attending judicial proceedings, performing legal research and providing other assistance to the judge. Law clerks are also exposed to the methods and customs of practitioners, and learn the level of professional behavior expected of lawyers. Many former law clerks find that the prestige and experience associated with service as a federal judicial law clerk broadens their future employment opportunities.

For more information, please review the Federal Clerkship Guide located in Symplicity's Career Services Guides. The guide provides additional information on such positions, upcoming summer deadlines, and an overview of application and interview procedures.
