Student Job Opportunities

The following are links to just some of the job resources most often used by USD students and graduates. It is not an exhaustive list. Please consult with a Career Advisor to maximize your opportunities.

  • Direct Recruitment of USD Students – Employers seeking applications from USD students post positions on our Job Board year round and during Fall and Spring Recruiting.
  • Government Opportunities - There are many ways to locate government jobs across the state and the country including the following:
    • Hundreds of state and federal legal internships and new attorney positions are listed in the Government Honors and Internship Guide in the “Announcements” area of Symplicity .
    • Federal jobs, legal and non-legal, are regularly posted on the USA Jobs Web site.
    • Federal, state, and municipal government offices in San Diego and surrounding areas recruit at USD through the Job Board and Fall and Spring Recruiting.
    • District attorney jobs in California are listed here, although it is recommended that you also check each district attorney office individually.
  • Job Fairs - Click here (PDF) for a list of legal job fairs around the country. Click here for information on the annual Tax LL.M Job Fair.
  • Judicial Clerkships (Post Graduation) – Information on state court clerkships can be found in the “Announcements” area of Symplicity. Students and graduates interested in federal clerkships will find detailed instructions in the Clerkship Guide (download the PDF). Career Services will assist you with the judicial clerkship application process, including processing faculty letters of recommendation. Click here for more information.
  • Judicial Externships (Before Graduation) – Students are alerted by e-mail to opportunities to work for local federal, state, and administrative law judges during the summer and school year. Career Services will also assist you with externships applications outside of San Diego for the summer.
  • Public Interest Opportunities – Our Public Interest Advisor, Lizzette Herrera, will be happy to speak with you about positions in public interest. Additionally, USD subscribes to PSLawNet, the leading public interest job clearinghouse, and Career Services publishes a Guide to Public Interest Careers, including local agencies.
