Derrick Cartwright worked as a museum director in Giverny (France), Hanover, New Hampshire, San Diego and Seattle before returning to San Diego in the fall of 2012.  In addition to his teaching roles at USD, he is Director of University Galleries.  Cartwright is eager to engage students by providing them with direct experiences working art objects and understanding the stakes of theoretical work in this field.

Areas of Interest


Cartwright teaches courses on the history of North American and Latin American art.  Additionally, he teaches courses on photographic history and theory, public art, curatorial/museum practice, and, more broadly, "The Art World."
