Banner Luminis Integration Team
Lead: Shiva Ayalasomayajula
Overview
Introduction:
The scope of the BLIT team defines the boundaries of the implementation of integration between the SCT ERP system (Banner), SCT Luminis and an external Learning Management System (WebCT CE 6.0).
Objectives:
-
Provide self service functionality to be accessible via MySandiego- the web based single point of contact for all the constituents of USD - students, faculty and staff.
-
Provide single sign functionality with other identified partner systems where integration is not possible or compatible.
Scope:
-
The BLIT project initially concentrates on the integration of Banner and Luminis in the initial phase and later the integration is extended to partner systems like WebCT.
-
The project currently assumes that there will not be major changes and version releases, updates, patches in any of the systems involved with the integration. Any changes however small are expected to be communicated to the BLIT team before they are applied to the ERP system, Portal system and the Learning Management System.
-
The resources are always available during the entire course of the project unless otherwise notified/specified.
-
The testing team will be formed and has enough scripts and documentation to test the entire integration before the go-live date in both test environment and the production environment.
-
Documentation is expected to be an important part of the project and unless otherwise specified, documentation is always included with each phase and is a prime component of final deliverables.
Implementation details:
The integration will be done in a phased approach.
Phase 1: The team does the initial research necessary for the implementation of integration between ERP systems (Banner), portal systems (Luminis-MySandiego) and various partner systems (such as WebCT). During this phase the team makes a list of various dependencies between the ERP system, portal system and other external systems.
Phase 2: The integration team installs the necessary hardware and software components to build a test instance.
Phase 3: The BLIT team incorporates various software modules (adapters) – some coming with the product and some custom written, to achieve the Luminis Data Integration Suite architecture.
Phase 4: The BLIT team tests thoroughly the technical aspects of the integration as well as the functional aspects of it. This phase requires creation of various scripts which will typically be various scenarios a student/employee/faculty would face while trying to access registration/ Self Service etc.,
Phase 5: After the thorough testing of the test environment the entire effort (steps 1-4) is repeated for the production environment.
Phase 6: The final testing is done on the production machine and all the results are documented.
