The Student Life Pavilion (SLP) connects to the Hahn University Center (UC) which contains the Forum Ballrooms, additional meeting and event space and La Gran Terraza. La Gran Terraza is a full-service restaurant which includes O'Tooles Gastropub and The Terrace which overlooks Tecolote Canyon and sunsets on Mission Bay. Students can often be found in the Frank Warren Lounge socializing over an afternoon snack while playing a game of pool, viewing a televised sporting event, or playing an interactive video game.

In addition to providing involvement opportunities for students, the SLP offers many different dining options and a grocery store/deli called Tu Mercado. The official campus store, USD Torero Store, is where one can obtain textbooks, supplies, and official Torero gear and gifts.

History

The Ernest and Jean Hahn University Center

The original University Center opened in 1986 and was home to the student cafeteria, faculty and staff lounge, meeting and event space and the Office of Student Affairs. It was built at a cost of approximately $11 million. Ernest Hahn, renowned builder and a seven-year member of USD's Board of Trustees, was instrumental in making the University Center a reality. In order to fund this project Mr. Hahn raised $7 million, including his personal contribution, with $4 million raised through state bonds. On September 22, 1989, the University Center was dedicated to Ernest and Jean Hahn and continues to bear their name today.

The Hahn University Center, known to students as the UC, was renovated in 2009 as part of the Student Life Pavilion construction. The renovation expanded event space, added Frank Warren's Lounge, the Exhibit Hall, computer lounge and the La Gran Terraza restaurant. In 2015 the USD Torero Store was added to the complex. The Hahn University Center is adjacent to the west of the Student Life Pavilion. The two buildings are connected by a breezeway. Together, the UC/SLP is the center of student life and activity at USD.

Student Life Pavilion

In the summer of 2009, the 50,000 square foot facility opened and immediately provided expanded services and options to the USD community. The Student Life Pavilion, known to students as the SLP, was built using 16th Century Spanish Renaissance design consistent with the architecture on campus. The layout is purposefully informal to encourage collaboration between students, their organizations, faculty and staff.
