Classes

Undergraduate students may take classes for credit through the registrar for 0.5 units per semester. These classes are on a Pass/Fail criterion and their grades are based on attendance. Attendance policies are specific to each class. Some classes have mandatory attendance, others will allow an absence if the appropriate make-ups are made with instructor approval.

In addition, undergraduate students, graduate students, and employees of the University may sign up for classes (when space is available) on a non-credit basis through the Outdoor Adventures website. All non-credit classes have a required fee, and enrollment into the class will only be accepted after credit registration has ceased (usually the first day of the undergraduate semester).

Recreation classes are designed for the entire campus community at USD. Classes provide students with opportunities to learn new skills and activities, to increase physical strength and fitness, and to provide a balance in daily life. By introducing and encouraging these activities, we hope that you will develop a life-long interest in health and fitness.

If you are an undergraduate student and would like to take a class for credit, you must use the registration portal with your MySanDiego account. Attendance rules apply to get a passing grade.

For non-credit course registrations, undergraduate students, graduate students, alumni (with pass), and staff may sign up through the Outdoor Adventures website. All non-credit classes have a required fee.

Many of the recreation classes have additional fees. For students enrolling for credit, these fees are charged to your student account. For students enrolling for non-credit, you must pay the fee when signing up for the class at the Adventure Center or online during registration.

Recreation classes fill quickly. Students desiring to take a class for non-credit must wait until the first day of classes to sign up. Priority is given to students taking the class for credit. If a class is full, a student (both credit and non-credit) must obtain permission from the instructor to add the class. Students taking a class for credit must sign up by the published add deadline.

Students taking a class for credit must follow the Registrar's procedures for dropping a class. Recreation class fees are not prorated. Students who drop their class by the add deadline and never attend a class may have their class fee refunded. The request must be made in the same semester as the class and the student must request this refund through the Outdoor Adventures Director. There are no fee refunds for students taking a class for non-credit.
