Outdoor Adventures (OA) is a service program within Campus Recreation at the University of San Diego. OA provides USD community members and their guests with opportunities to experience new adventures that aim to promote learning and awareness of the outdoors, while connecting with new friends, students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Our trip schedule is organized on a semesterly basis in consideration of community interest, resources, and location availability.
We offer a variety of outings, but most of our programs fall into two categories: San Diego day trips or overnight trips around the Southwest. Our day trips around San Diego include kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, biking, and more. Overnight trips include camping, canoeing, backpacking, biking, kayaking, canyoneering and climbing. Varying in length from two hours to ten days, trips are led by USD students and/or staff who have participated in our Guide Development Program. Follow this link to view our current trip schedule.
Any individual from the USD community (students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni) and their guests.
Yearly, we provide trips that are open to both alumni and friends of USD community members. For details on a specific trip offering, send us an email at explore@sandiego.edu or come visit us at the OA office.
Rentals are available to current students and employees. We rent a large variety of outdoor equipment at low rates. Designed to alleviate the high cost of buying equipment – especially for people who only venture into the outdoors occasionally – this program is a great resource to try new outdoor activities. The Guide Development Program is an opportunity for a more involved experience within Outdoor Adventures. As a guide, one leads peers on outdoor recreation and education trips across the southwest, gaining valuable experience and making real decisions with impactful consequences. In the process of becoming a guide, students earn industry-standard certifications and leadership experience which have consistently translated into future careers as leaders and changemakers.
Typically, the price of a trip includes equipment, transportation, permits, fees, and guides. Depending on the trip (location, duration, time) we will also provide food. For details on a specific trip offering, send us an email at explore@sandiego.edu or come visit us at the OA office.
Love San Diego is a series of virtual tours where current students and employees share the locations and activities they love around San Diego with the goal of helping students fall in love with being a student here. These virtual tours are saved as highlights on the @usd_outdooradventures Instagram account and will eventually be listed on the OA website. We hope that these tours will inspire you to get outside in San Diego and that you will learn something about the locations and activities that will enhance your time at USD!
